The Exeter Bandstand is the symbolic center of town, located in the heart of the downtown business district, where main roads and community life converge. Within steps of the bandstand are the town's public library, municipal offices, the Phillips Exeter Academy campus, the riverfront, Swasey Park and dozens of excellent shops, restaurants and historical atractions.
Designed by America's preeminent sculptor and Exeter native Daniel Chester French, the bandstand was given as a gift to the town by French and Exeter benefactor Ambrose Swasey in 1902. Since then, life in Exeter has literally and figuratively revolved around its gracious centerpiece — The Exeter Bandstand.
